PigTrace Canada Update
PigTrace is an industry-led, national swine traceability initiative delivered by the Canadian Pork Council (CPC) and Pork Nova Scotia.
Starting July 1, 2014, PigTrace will be mandated by law through the federal Health of Animals Regulation. The regulation will be enforced by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The CPC acts as the program administrator under the regulation. Pork Nova Scotia is the program lead in the province of Nova Scotia.
In the coming days, you will receive a letter that provides instructions on how to activate your PigTrace account for the purposes of reporting movement information and ordering approved ear tags. You will also receive program materials that describe the regulatory requirements, approved forms of pig identification, and instructions on how to report pig movements to the PigTrace database. Various reporting tools have been developed in an effort to meet your needs and abilities. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Brad at 902-893-7455.
